Surveillance et protection de la biodiversité autour de nos installations.

We are carrying out the İÇDAŞ Biodiversity Project in order to get to know more closely the diversity of living things in the impact area of ​​our facilities, to initiate projects to protect them, and to strengthen the ecosystem by increasing the diversity of living things here.

Biodiversity is becoming one of the important parts of sustainable growth day by day. Monitoring the effects of environmental measures taken during production processes on nearby ecosystems is undoubtedly the most important indicator in terms of providing information about whether environmental measures are successful or not.

Our studies Our systematic work on monitoring biodiversity by employing a biologist began with identifying and photographing plant and animal species in and around the facility. We created the first living inventory by recording the species in the forest area and freshwater ecosystems around the facility. We carry out our work in terrestrial, aquatic and marine ecosystems around our facilities. We continue with our weekly field trips. The fact that our facilities are located in both the sea-coastal ecosystem and the forest ecosystem doubles our responsibility to nature.

Flora

Çanakkale Province varies depending on the Black Sea and Mediterranean transition climate. The forest area covers approximately 56% of the total area of ​​the province, and the northern slopes of the Kaz Mountains (Ayvacık, Bayramiç and Yenice Districts) and the higher parts of Biga and Çan districts are characterized by forest vegetation. The vegetation of Kaz Mountains consists of oak and chestnut species among the deciduous species, and red pine, larch and endemic fir species among the coniferous species.

It has been observed that a large part of the area where our facility is located is dominated by maquis vegetation, and there is forest vegetation including oak and red pine trees. Garig (frigana) formation, consisting of very short thorny bushes, has also been observed in areas where maquis communities have been destroyed. This type of vegetation is seen abundantly in our environment and is also very common on the Mediterranean coasts of our country, but it is not under protection.

Fauna

  • Marine Ecosystem Studies

    Çanakkale province, which has a coastline of 671 km, has given us the opportunity to contribute to the marine ecosystem. For this reason, in 2013, with the support of GMKA, the first step was taken towards marine ecosystem studies with the project "Fisheries in Çanakkale Will Breathe by Increasing Biodiversity". These studies were carried out in cooperation with ÇOMÜ Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology and with the participation of İÇDAŞ. The work started in Karabiga and feasibility studies were carried out to determine reef areas by diving in 15 regions along the Kumkale Village coastline. Work on the reef areas created within the scope of the "İÇDAŞ Biodiversity Support Project" was carried out in 2015. The aim of the project is to increase and enrich biodiversity. In this way, it has become a sustainable project that contributes to both nature and fisheries. In this regard, a total of 959 artificial reefs were left, 280 in the Değirmencik region and 679 in the Bekirli region. This adds richness in terms of biodiversity to both the marine ecosystem around the facility and the Marmara Sea ecosystem. As stated in the EU Water Framework Directive, aquatic ecosystems must be protected. Our aim is to move in this direction with artificial reefs that provide clean seas and nesting areas for aquatic creatures.

  • Ornithological Monitoring Studies

    The work done in the terrestrial ecosystem is the observation of ornithological and wildlife. This study is being conducted by the facility biologist.

    Field studies for İçdaş Biga Wind Power Plant were carried out by Akdeniz University academics and started with the Ecosystem Assessment Report in 2015. Based on these reports, ornithological observation and wildlife monitoring studies were carried out for 2 years. The final report was completed in 2017 and submitted to the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs. According to the final report, it was stated that the RES activity does not pose a significant risk in terms of migration, breeding, feeding and accommodation activities of bird species. As a result, facility biologist Funda YILDIZ continued to inspect nests and carcasses during the spring 1 March - 31 May, the autumn migration period 1 September - 31 October, and the breeding period 1 April - 15 August.

  • Wildlife Monitoring Studies

    The fact that a total of 78 mammal species (48.1%) belonging to 7 orders, 20 families and 44 genera live within the borders of Çanakkale is another indicator of faunal richness. There are no endemic mammal species within the borders of Çanakkale province. Observation and analysis information obtained from field studies and current literature information were used. There is maquis-shrub dominance around the facility and forest formation in some parts. In addition to the dense maquis formation, there are shrub forms as well as annual plants in limited-sized open areas throughout the region. This structure maintains its frequent formation features, especially during the summer months. For this reason, images of the sparsely vegetated-stony "maquis-shrub" habitat type, which is one of the dominant habitat types in the area, and the densely covered vegetation are given. These types of habitats are home to many species of lizards and snakes, small mammals (especially rodents and rabbits) and carnivores (martens, weasels, etc.).

There are 323 species from the animal kingdom and 126 species from the plant kingdom living around the facility.
