İÇDAŞ Energy Production Plant

In our energy production plant, fluidized bed combustion technology—one of the clean coal combustion technologies—is utilized. Coal is used as the primary fuel and natural gas as the auxiliary fuel in our facility.

Coal is transported from the stockyard to the boiler via a closed-belt conveyor system. It is burned within the fluidized bed boiler with the addition of limestone. Gases released as a result of combustion inside the boiler pass through electrostatic dust collection filters and are directed to the stack free of dust.

With fluidized bed combustion technology, alongside better coal combustion, SO₂ emissions remain below desired environmental limits due to the limestone added during combustion, while NOₓ emissions remain low thanks to the low combustion temperature.

Fluidized Bed Technology

Fluidized bed technology is the latest clean coal combustion technology developed worldwide as a result of R&D studies, experiencing rapid adoption since the early 1990s. It is widely used in developed countries such as the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and South Korea.

In the fluidized bed combustion system, sand, coal, and limestone in the combustion section of the boiler are fluidized by combustion air supplied from underneath, allowing coal to be burned in the boiler at sizing of (0-9) mm without needing pulverization.

The low combustion temperature (850 °C) minimizes the oxidation of nitrogen entering with air (thermal NOₓ formation). Meanwhile, NOₓ emissions sourced from fuel nitrogen are reduced to extremely low levels using staged air supply techniques.

Clean Coal and Wind Energy Plants

Gases are purified from SO₂ thanks to feeding limestone into the boiler along with coal in the fluidized bed combustion system:

CaO + SO₂ + ½ O₂ → CaSO₄

For dust emissions, a state-of-the-art electrostatic precipitator unit has been installed in our facility featuring a high efficiency of 99.98%, consisting of a total of 10 cells across 2 channels with 5 sections each. Emission values are continuously monitored and controlled online electronically via a continuous emission monitoring system.
