ICDAS Quality Control Laboratories do not approve any product for shipment until all control procedures required by standards in chemical and physical matters are completed. All inspection, test and measurement results regarding our products are evaluated based on compliance with the required product standards and customer satisfaction, and shipment approval is granted accordingly.

QUALITY CONTROL CHEMISTRY LABORATORIES

At our Quality Control Chemistry Laboratories,

chemical inspection, mechanical testing and measurement procedures are performed on all raw materials affecting product quality (ferro alloys, refractory materials, refining additives, etc.) at intake stage, and on semi-finished and finished products during process and final control stages. Inspection and test results are evaluated in line with relevant product standards and customer requirements before shipment approval is granted.

Inspection, test and measurement devices used in our Quality Control Chemistry Laboratory include:

- 4 ARL Optical Emission Spectrometers (2 devices measure 21 elements including nitrogen; 2 devices measure 25 elements including nitrogen and oxygen)
- 1 ARL XRF (ADVANT’X-2227) Spectrometer
- 1 LECO CS 230 Carbon/Sulphur Determination Device

Precision weighing devices, grinding machines, crushers and grinders, press & fusion devices, various chemical analysis, temperature measurement and electronic control devices are used for sample preparation.

Chemical inspections of semi-finished products are performed during process and final control stages, and of finished products during final control stages using optical emission spectrometers.

  • Input inspections of all raw materials affecting product quality (ferro alloys, granule/pig/aluminium hemispheres, HBI, pig iron, lime/limestone, fluorspar, carbide, metallic manganese, refractory materials, etc.),
  • Chemical analyses of slag, mill scale, flue dust and similar production by-products,
  • Iron/steel and nickel analyses, and copper, zinc, aluminium and lead alloy analyses,
  • Water, oil and water-oil analyses,
  • Ore, ceramic, soil, sediment, oxide, powder and metallic powder analyses, and analyses of materials with unknown composition.

Anthracite (fixed carbon) and lime (active CaO) analyses are performed using wet methods.

All inspection, test and measurement devices in our Chemistry Laboratory are calibration certified; calibration is performed periodically by external calibration laboratories with national and international competence. Periodic verification with certified reference samples is also performed.

QUALITY CONTROL MECHANICAL LABORATORIES

Inspection, test and measurement procedures performed on construction steel and wire rod products after rolling, in line with standard requirements, include:

  • Unit weight controls,
  • Yield and tensile strength, elongation measurements,
  • Automated computer-controlled dimensional measurements (rib height, rib thickness, rib spacing, rib angle, rib area),
  • Wire diameter and height measurements,
  • Bend and re-bend test evaluations,
  • Macro etching cross-section controls,
  • Ovality controls (for plain products),
  • Hardness measurements (HRB and HRC),
  • Upset (head expansion) tests,
  • Metallographic examinations, decarburization, grain size,
  • Microstructure examinations, non-metallic inclusion counts in steels,
  • Fatigue tests at our TURKAK-accredited laboratory under TS EN ISO/IEC 17025.

Fatigue Test

In brief, the fatigue test evaluates how construction steel will behave in concrete structures over time. The fatigue device applies horizontal oscillation (up to 300 Hz/s) under constant vertical load, simulating earthquake/tectonic effects on reinforced concrete structures. ICDAS was the first steel producer in Türkiye to install this technology. TS 708/2010, revised in 2010, requires fatigue testing.

Fatigue tests are also performed every three to six months by international certification bodies (UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Portugal, Bulgaria, etc.) for our construction steels.

All inspection, test and measurement data are evaluated using statistical quality control.

Metallography Laboratory services include macro structure, micro structure, micro cleanliness, grain size, decarburization and segregation analyses.

Mechanical Laboratory devices include 3 tensile testing machines (40, 150 and 200 ton capacity), ribbed wire rod sample straightening machine, bend/rebend test machines, marking devices, precision scales, calipers, micrometers, angle gauges and steel rules.

All mechanical laboratory devices are calibration certified and calibrated periodically by independent external calibration laboratories.
